afraid of fear

I felt more scared outside the Disney World

than inside rural China

But I grew up during 9/11

Still inside Zermatt

Spending restless nights afraid of fear

I wasted childhoods thinking

of a better way to give a voice

articulate the pain

of confinement close and local

where you fear it most, thus hate it

and you try not to address it

but it makes its way in strides
