The dogs pay the bills
When dogs pay the bills
And the house on the hills
That you hate for its distance
But love for its view
Far away from wheels and roads
Twice a year
the river spreads
a filthy valley opens up
for no one and for you
You owe the dogs their dignity
which goes against the business
and the gifts you wish for Christmas
Are dependent on their looks
Spoiled from all the gifts and games
and with it comes a sense of shame
of having wasted countless years
or never reading books
